Helsinki

Compact and safe, the Helsinki area offers visitors a taste of both quirky urban life and nature. Within the city, you can find a thriving innovation ecosystem, renowned architecture, excellent museums, and a world class culinary scene. Parks and green spaces offer opportunities to enjoy a relaxing stroll or forage for mushrooms and other wild edibles.

The Helsinki region includes Finland’s capital city and the wider metropolitan area—cities like Vantaa (home to the international airport) and Espoo (the main venue for the conference). It also encompasses farther-flung towns and villages, to be explored for their natural beauty and cultural gems. The entire region is easily accessible via public transportation.

Whatever you do in the Helsinki area, we hope you will find the time to visit a sauna (or two or three!) Fun fact: there are more saunas in Helsinki than cars.

Dipoli, Aalto University

Dipoli is our conference venue and the beautiful and iconic heart of Aalto University. Designed by world-renowned Finnish architects Raili and Reima Pietilä and considered a key example of organic architecture, it follows the rhythm of the forest. The building was constructed entirely with Finnish materials, such as pine, copper, and stone. Of Dipoli’s 500 windows, only four are identical in design.

The Aalto University campus was built in Espoo in the 1960s under the supervision of renowned Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. In 2010, Aalto University was formed as a result of a merger of three universities to integrate science, business, and the arts.
